It’s been over three full months since Cabarete entered the quarantine and lockdown. In our previous blog, you can read more about quarantining in Cabarete. People took serious measures to stop the virus spread in the town. And it has to be recognised that the efforts have paid off. There hasn’t been a major outbreak of cases in Cabarete and the vast majority has stayed safe. Now it’s time for Cabarete to reopen and welcome local and international guests again. We’ve missed you!
The life on Cabarete streets got busier when the government announced the Phase 1 of the economy recovery plan at the end of May. First, the well-known bakeries Friends and Panaderia Dick reopened for delivery and pick-up in the morning. Then the famous beach restaurant Mojito Bar started to offer its delicious sandwich specials again on the first week of June. While 1st of July was a day when most of the remaining beach businesses reopened their doors again. So now you can sit down at Mojito Bar, Lax Ojos, VoyVoy, Front Loop Cafe, etc and enjoy great food and ocean views as before the quarantine. Besides, laundries, photo copy centers, shops, hardware stores all got back to their activities. At the same time all establishments applied new strict measures of social distancing and proper disinfection. The best: all water sports like Kitesurfing, Windsurfing, Foil , have started again!
New sanitary protocols
On 24th June, the Ministry of Tourism has officially confirmed that the country’s tourism activities will relaunch on 1st July. However, it’s extremely important that all tourism related businesses follow specially drafted sanitary protocols. The Health Minister reassured that the application of the protocols guarantees a safe tourism activity in the country and well-being both for tourists and tourism employees.
As part of the new protocols, tourists will have to make a declaration regarding any contact with positively tested patients within the previous 14 days. They should also inform the administration of any COVID-19 symptoms they may experience. There is no obligatory self-isolation period upon arrival. The maximum allowed hotel occupancy rate is 75% for the first few months. Whereas all common areas are to be zoned respecting the minimum 2 meter distance. Furthermore, the airline companies have confirmed their flight program for the beginning of July. According to the press release, the Puerto Plata Airport is getting ready to receive 50 commercial flights from the United States in July. American Airlines and JetBlue will be flying from Miami and New York to Puerto Plata. Besides, the Punta Cana International Airport has 363 flights scheduled for July from Europe, United States, Canada and Panama. Moreover, British airlines British Airways, Easyjet, and Virgin Atlantic have included the Dominican Republic in a list of 45 quarantine-free countries to establish a prioritized air bridge.
