Giving Back to Cabarete: A Legacy of Community Support

At L’Agence Real Estate, we have the privilege of working with clients who see Cabarete not only as a destination or an investment, but as a community worth nurturing. One of the most inspiring examples of this mindset is Herve, one of the original owners at Ocean Dream. Herve purchased his apartment in pre-construction at the very beginning of the project, long before Cabarete became the vibrant international destination it is today. Over the next 20 years, he successfully rented his condo and consistently shared part of his rental income with local non-profit organizations, quietly contributing to the social fabric of the town. Last year, when he decided to sell his apartment, Herve chose to extend this commitment even further by donating a portion of the sale proceeds to several of Cabarete’s most impactful community organizations.

Supporting the Pillars of Cabarete’s Community

Mariposa Foundation plays a vital role in empowering girls and young women through education, mentorship, and social support. By providing safe spaces, academic programs, and life skills training, Mariposa helps break cycles of poverty and creates long-term opportunities for future generations. Supporting this foundation directly contributes to stronger families and a more resilient community.

Cabarete Sostenible is a non-profit addressing food insecurity through food aid programs, and community-led spaces for civic agriculture, focusing on environmental protection and sustainable development, with particular attention to waste management, recycling, and environmental education. As Cabarete continues to grow, preserving its natural beauty is essential—not only for quality of life, but also for the long-term sustainability of tourism and real estate. Supporting Cabarete Sostenible helps ensure that development goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility.

Academia de la Costa, locally known as The Academy, teaches, inspires and empowers through martial arts economically disadvantaged children and young adults who may have otherwise lacked direction. The non-profit has trained and mentored many local athletes, including Alex Garcia, the first Dominican MMA competitor in the UFC, and many others. For over a decade, the Academy has been able to do this work through the generosity of friends who share the belief that local youth deserve paths to self-confidence and various resources for development.

InspireDR provides free after-school programs that teach life skills and values, guiding local boys to become responsible men, husbands and fathers. It works with youth through arts, education, and leadership programs designed to foster creativity, confidence, and social awareness. Right now they’re raising money to finish a community center that will serve as an important hub for local kids to gather, play and develop. By encouraging self-expression and personal development, InspireDR helps young boys discover their potential and envision a better and more meaningful future within their own community.

Academia de Bachata engages children with free, intensive instruction in the traditional music of Latin America and the Caribbean. They engage at-risk youth with fun, culturally relevant music programs that foster personal growth, artistic expression, professionalism, and teamwork. Bachata’s global popularity means that their graduates have an opportunity to build meaningful careers in music. Supporting cultural initiatives like this not only strengthens local identity, but also enriches Cabarete’s cultural landscape for residents and visitors alike.

EcoSolucionesRD is a grassroots environmental organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the Cabarete lagoon, one of the area’s most vital natural ecosystems. Their work focuses on reforesting mangroves and native trees to prevent erosion and restore wildlife habitats, while also engaging the community through environmental education programs in local schools. In addition, EcoSolucionesRD organizes clean-up initiatives, controls invasive species, and conducts ongoing scientific monitoring and water quality testing to better understand the lagoon’s health and ensure its long-term preservation.

Leading by Example

Herve’s story is a powerful reminder that real estate investment and community impact can go hand in hand. His long-term commitment shows how homeowners, residents, and even regular visitors can play an active role in shaping the future of Cabarete. By reinvesting in education, environmental protection, culture, and youth development, we collectively contribute to a town that is not only attractive, but also inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous.

At L’Agence Real Estate, we believe this example should inspire anyone who benefits from Cabarete—whether through property ownership, business, or lifestyle—to consider how they can give back. A thriving community is built not only on beautiful properties and strong returns, but on shared responsibility and long-term vision.
